How to be productive and be successful

Success has a direct relationship with productivity. If you want to be successful, you need to ensure that you know how to be productive. There are people who keep complaining about how bad things are and there are others who try to sort them out. Success comes to the latter one because they try to make things work.

It is also a fact that productivity doesn’t only rely upon the employees. The employers also have to make sure that they have provided a suitable working environment to their employees. The working ambience needs to be encouraging too. Employers can’t expect to attain maximum productivity without ensuring that their employees are happy. The rules and regulations need to be a bit flexible and the employers need to trust their employees too.

On the other hand, employees should know that if they won’t be proactive in being productive, they would be the one who’ll be disappointed in the end. They would be the one who’ll have to suffer the most. An employer can easily get a replacement of an average employee. You should understand that in this era of economic crunch, many candidates are ready to grab your job. That’s why; you are the one who needs to be strategic towards being more productive.

    You can start with organizing yourself. A work place is a work place. You can’t treat it like your home. No matter what kind of environment you have at your work, you need to make sure that you are organized. Look at your job responsibilities and prioritize your work accordingly.
    If you are confused, ask your seniors. It will show them that you want to learn and you have what it takes to be successful. Don’t let them regret their decision.

    Make some goals. You need to list out the things that you want to accomplish. But only making goals isn’t important, you will have to ensure that you achieve them. You also need to have some deadlines and you should make sure that you stick to them. Be confident of your decisions and prove them right by accomplishing your goals. Make sure that you are taking every possible step to achieve them. Don’t waste your time in social gatherings or talking over cell phones or using social media portals because if you won’t take your goals seriously, nobody else will take you seriously.

    Be patient and focus. Most of the people lose their jobs because of their bad temper or low patience level. If something isn’t working out the way you wanted it to, be calm and then look for other options. Sometimes you will have to deal with multiple tasks at one time and this is where you can lose focus or patience. But you should allocate specific time to specific tasks and manage them accordingly. The moment you will lose your focus or patience, you won’t be able to finish any task on time.

The “Long-term” Director Suddenly Quits

Many years ago, I worked for an organization who couldn’t keep a director more than a year. In essence, the director was in charge of managing the day-to-day business of the company. Other than working into the evenings on some days, the position didn’t seem too tough, especially since much of the work was delegated to the competent staff.

During an initial meeting with the staff, the director, Mitch, made it clear that he was going to be the end of the line. The revolving door approach was over.

“Hello, everyone,” he said. “I want you to know that I’m not planning on going anywhere. I’m here for the long-term, like it or not.”

I was unsure whether to believe him. I didn’t know him well, so the benefit of the doubt seemed like the best approach.

Because my work required meeting with clients outside the office, I didn’t see him often. In fact, if it weren’t for the mandatory 9 a.m. Friday meetings, I could go a month or two without running into Mitch.

As it turns out, Mitch did stay longer than the other director. I believe he lasted about three years, which is a tremendous accomplishment. However, I think that three years doesn’t meet the definition of long-term. It would appear to me that one can claim longevity when north of seven years.

On a drive to Austin, where I was teaching a project management seminar, I had a chance to mull over reasons why Mitch didn’t last, and here’s my list:

· He had a short-time mentality, but wanted to say the right things.

· He was unaware of the expectations, and quickly realized that he was in over his head.

· He lacked the director skills.
In his previous job, he served a manager role, which didn’t require the leadership skills of directors.

· He realized that working long hours wasn’t worth the compensation.

· He was ill-equipped to handle the pressures of the director position.

· He realized that it was difficult to manage employees who were self-starters, requiring little guidance.

· He delegated too much. Sitting in his office, doing nothing, was boring.

· He found another job paying much more, and couldn’t pass it up.

· He found another job paying about the same, and with less responsibility.

· He found another job paying less, and he needed a change.

· He found another job.

By working with Mitch for several years, I had the opinion that he wouldn’t last. It’s not part of his DNA. He talked a big game, but he was too soft. He handled tough issues by either avoiding them or delegating to others. It’s impossible to be a leader when one delegates tough decisions. An effective director of an organization is prepared to handle the tough aspects of the work, and Mitch was not the type.

Mitch is now working at Company X, and I’m sure that his meeting with the staff began with the following introduction: “Let me tell you about me. You can expect me to be here for the long-term, whether you like it or not.”

Most Common Forms of Mediocrity

In everything you do, you must give your all and really work hard. However, unfortunately, everyone has a little friend called mediocrity.

Mediocre means that you only give low or moderate efforts when you’re doing a certain job. While it is barely acceptable, it’s not good, and is inferior to other works. We are all guilty of this. It is the main reason why many people struggle to achieve their goals. Thankfully, there are many ways you can beat mediocrity.

Mediocrity takes form in twelve ways:
1. You don’t like what you’re doing.
2. You spend too much time on a project when you can cut your time consumption in half.
3. You do not set aside time for travel.
4. You do nothing to achieve your goals successfully.
5. Taking the stand of the majority without considering your own opinions.
6. Being the jack-of-all-trades and master of none
7. You do not question authority.
8. You settle for the wrong person in personal relationship.
9. You are addicted to the television.
10. You do not create something new.
11. You don’t save money.
12. Everything is scarce, and you can hardly remember a time of abundance.

There are many other ways to be mediocre, but these are the most common forms. Most of us can relate to it, just sitting back and letting time go by. There are a lot of causes. Mainly, many are just afraid of change. Sometimes, when we are used to the kind of lifestyle we’re living, it can be easy to fall back into the same patterns, even when you’re trying to make a conscious effort. Don’t be afraid to draw attention to yourself. Failure is not something to fear; it’s something to learn from. Sooner or later, when you try something new, you’re bound to hit a few snags. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try again. In fact, you should try harder to achieve your goals, because it is the only way you will succeed. How will you know if you don’t even try?

Sometimes, people are just afraid of what other people might think. But is it really that important?

If you know yourself and you know what you want, nothing anybody says can change that. You can’t sacrifice your own happiness just to keep up appearances with others. You’re the one to choose, and you are the one who knows what will make you fulfilled in your life. You have to realize that the only thing holding you back is not society or the people around you; it’s just you. When you stop obsessing about what other people will say, you make progress and stop becoming a mediocre person.

In the end, it all comes down to you. You have to make the decision to change your life and stop being mediocre. You can achieve greatness if you put your mind into it.

Cultivating Awareness

Hello, I would like to share a concept I call cultivating awareness. Now what that means is to gain access to the parts of yourself that you want to promote. It's a pretty powerful concept, I dare say that you can become anything that is within the limits of the human spectrum.
Now considering this, I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be a tool all of us couldn't help but use and all need to practice at some point in our lives to meet the demands of a testing environment. Without its use you would not exist today, evolution demands that the most pliable creatures live and the ones unable to stand the test of life are snuffed out. So you are a product of thousands of years of people that were able to tune in to the qualities that life expected, and hence thrive on.

If you can agree with some of the concepts I stated above, then if you want to thrive in life you would need to cultivate an awareness that was suited to the task in which you have deem a worthy cause. Now lets hope you judgment on worthy causes are something that does you justice. If not well you could always cultivate an awareness that helps determine what does you justice right? See where I'm going with this. It's indispensable, without it's practice we are on the wrong side of the thrive or die paradigm.Now the question is how to cultivate awareness? Well really cultivation of awareness is never-ending affair. Which means your in practice of it whether we are conscious of it or not. The key is to become mindful of our daily mental state.In some Eastern practices they employ what is referred to as the mindfulness bell, which simply chimes to trigger the recipient into reflecting upon the awareness that is present at that given time. This practice is a constructive way of understanding the awareness. That we are fixed in. There are as many ways of capturing your given tendencies of being aware, they are limited only by imagination and practicality.

So go ahead and tell me what I need to know so I can use this bit of information and go about my day, well this is the part where it gets blurry and awesome if your like me. I can't tell you want you need to cultivate within yourself, that's your choice and to me that's empowering. It brings life into an explosion of curious options. I can have anything I want as long as I take the time and effort to find the means in which to cultivate myself into having them. You see in awareness is freedom, we choose what we want to be aware of and then we either cultivate that hell or heaven for ourselves. You're not the victim you're the creator. Isn't it great to know we have more control of our lives than what is commonly presented.

I encourage you to cultivate an awareness full of freedom and love.

How to Be In Charge Of Your Future - A Guide to Controlling Time

Imagine that you are in the Dentist's waiting room and feeling a little anxious. You announced yourself to the receptionist and she has motioned you to a seat. The time of your appointment has passed. You have read all the old magazines and the notices on the wall, including the one that says you will be charged for broken appointments.

Thirty five minutes later a nurse calls you into the surgery. No one apologises for keeping you waiting or gives any excuse. The dentist starts his work but after ten minutes says that you will need extra work and should make a new appointment.

Your day is ruined. You are now too late to do the other things that you had wished to do. You feel unhappy and of little worth, a person of no importance.

Guess what? You are a person of no importance. You did it to yourself. Let's go back to the Dentist's office.

When you announced yourself to the receptionist did you ask if you will be seen on time? I always do, and if I am told that there may be a delay I ask her to let the dentist know that if I am not seen in twenty minutes I shall leave. I not only leave after twenty minutes, I bill the Dentist for a broken appointment. It is important that the office appreciate that your time is of least as much importance as anybody else's. If you do not respect yourself and value your time, why should other people?

Now, of course the boot may be on the other foot as it were. You are with a customer who hasn't recognised that this meeting is over and is wittering on.
The amount of time that you had allotted for the meeting is over. However the business is not concluded. This is where you could lose control by just keep going. Not only is this wrong but you have given up control. Time is equally important to your next customer who expects to be seen on time. Give a second appointment to the present customer. Be sure to tell them that you will need a full appointment to conclude your business.

You then are punctual for your next and every other appointment. In this way you are not only in charge of today but have established yourself as the controller of your future.

Nowadays,   I find it more productive to work from home. Even excluding the travelling time, I find that the absence of the inevitable interruptions in the corporate world enables me to complete my   assignments in half the time.
